Hear what David Skinner, Managing Director of Berns Brett has to say about his experience of joining Jensten

I’m David Skinner, Managing Director of Berns Brett. We became part of Jensten in October 2023 and I am now the Managing Director for their London and South-East Region.
Berns Brett is a 50-year-old charter broker. We are proud of our history and our first-class service provided to our clients. Our staff are loyal with many of them staying with us for over 20 years and one over 50 years.

Why Jensten?

For me, Jensten were the right business to work with because I could see where we would fit within their family. The people were very engaging, not only with me, but with my management team too. I also felt that, as they expand, there would be some great opportunities for some of my team to have career advancements.
They explained their journey so far and where they want to get to, and I felt that we could really add value and help them on that journey.

How was the integration with Jensten?

It will take time to get used to working, culturally, with a bigger organisation. However, they’re nice people to deal with, so I don’t anticipate any problems.

Do you have any advice to anyone beginning their journey with Jensten?

Don’t be afraid to air your views, they’ve been nice people to deal with. We’ve found no hidden agendas or ulterior motives, and it’s been a smooth process.
People should go into this open-minded, but what they don’t change is the way you handle your clients and your staff. They’ll only add resources to improve that. They’re genuine about that.

Could you be our next acquisition?

Our retail broking division consists of regional, specialist and schemes centres of excellence. The businesses we buy have a regional or specialist focus – or a combination of both – and support SME, mid-market and corporate clients, or personal clients with bespoke and specialist needs.

Whether you could be our next regional centre of excellence hub, the start of a new specialism or a more modest satellite office for an existing region or specialism, we would welcome a conversation.
